I showed my documentary and presentation today as we ran out of time yesterday and i think it went quite well and i got some positive comments!
Tuesday 13th October
I have now pretty much finished editing my documentary together i am just doing some last minute tweaking and things such as adding my the credits in and watching it over to check if there are any last minute touches i can make to improve it.
Once i was happy with my documentary i showed it to my teacher and a student to see if they thought there were any last minute improvements i could make.
I got good feedback and they said it engaged them and thought it such as making the the images not move off the page so fast and keep the eyes of the images of celebrities on the screen to focus the audience.
It was useful getting last minute feedback as i could change things which i would not have noticed myself to improve my documentary.
It would have been a better idea to get some feedback a few days earlier so if there were any major tweaks i needed to make or things in, i would have time to do so however due to the lack of time this was not possible.
I made these changes and my watched my documentary over and my documentary was finally finished! I was very pleased with the final result and it felt good to finish as i had spent so much time and hard work on it and was very stressed towards the end as i thought i would not have got it done.

Also the major thing i would do which would allow me to do those things would be planning my time more efficiently as i had to rush and spent lots of time towards the end, finishing it last minute.
I will be showing my documentary along with a PowerPoint presentation tomorrow to the rest of my class and teachers where i will be assessed.

I have been working very hard trying to finish my documentary. There is so much involved in editing it together as there it always something you find that you can tweak, or adding another image in somewhere.
I also created my presentation about my documentary which i needed to pitch as i show my documentary. I included what my documentary was about and why i chose it, what my role was, what was done and how well i think i managed the project.

The deadline is next week - the 8th October so i am spending every hour of my spare time editing my documentary! It is difficult as there are things such as the voice over clips all sounding a different volume level to each other so trying to get these all the same is tricky!

As i now have everything i need for my documentary; footage, clips, images, music and voice over it is now just a matter of editing it all together and making it run smoothly! However it is not as easy as it sounds as this is a very hard and long process!

I decided to redo my whole voice over as the voice over doesn't have a lot of expression and comes across as a bit boring and doesn't really engage and interests the audience. As i think the voice over is an important part of a documentary i believe it should be strong and engaging which is why i think i should redo it. Although it will take more time which i don't really have, i think it will be beneficial in the end.
I started my third attempt of the voice over today and after a few hours of hard work i managed to finish it! It sounds a lot better than the previous voice over and has more expression which makes the documentary more believable to the audience and they can believe what the presenter is saying. I started to do my voice over as this would help me put the documentary together a bit more easily, knowing where to put certain things. I started to do my voice over on i-movie, where i was creating my documentary however as i didn't find this very effective i decided to make my voice over on garage band and then i could convert the voice files to i-movie.
The voice over was one of the most difficult stages of this project as it was hard to maintain the same volume throughout the whole script. Also i kept making mistakes so this was very irritating and had to read parts over and over again. I also needed complete quite when doing my voice over but this was not practical as there were other students working too.

I realised that some of the footage i had filmed of the interviews had gone jumpy once they were on the computer so i had to re-film some of these parts which meant more time than i had planned on this and less time in editing!
Wednesday 23rd September
I am carrying on putting all the content i need in my documentary including images, footage, clips and music. Once i have it all together i will start making it flow together and adding special effects.

I am carrying on with my editing putting images and clips together. I have also found some music which i want to include which took quite a long time as i didn't plan the music i was going to use. I also used live-type to make my title for my documentary. This was a new programme to me and i learned some skills and what you can do on this programme and this will be useful for future work.

I went to the city centre today and filmed footage of what i had planned to film, I filmed shops, women, makeup counters, manikins.
I now had all my filming done and now was ready with the next part of my production process; the editing.

I had finally managed to film interviews of the people i had planned, however this took more time than i had planned.

I had planned to film a family friend who works in the beauty industry however due to circumstances i could not film her.
Also as i wanted to film my older sister as she has strong views on magazines and how they affect her i was not able to film her when i had planned and needed to wait longer which made led me astray from my schedule, making me have less time.

After the summer holiday, i am now prepared to start filming for my documentary. I made a shedule of the things i need to film and when i will film them.

Today i pitched my final ideas to my teacher. He seemed to like my ideas and thought they would work well. He suggested some changes which i could make to my storyboard and we discussed the next stage of the process which would be the filming and how i was going to do this.

As we had study leave i did not work on my documentary that much, however i have completed my storyboard and i will arrange a meeting with my teacher to pitch my ideas next Wednesday.

I started storyboarding my documentary today. This was quite hard as i need to think about exactly what i am going to show and match the visual to the voice over. I also had to include things such as camera shots and special effects which i wanted to use.
Even though the storyboard is a difficult and long process, it will help me in my production process as i will know exactly what i am doing.

I made all the adjustments to my script and finally finished my final script today, which i am pleased with. The script is an important part of the documentary as it engages the audience and informs the audience about the topic. Therefore i tried to make my script friendly, informative and entertaining.

I have now completed my script adding and taking out parts! I had a quick meeting with my teacher so he could read my script and see if there are any problems and room for improvements.
He advised me with parts that didn't work well so i should work on these to improve my script.
It was very useful to have someone else than me read through my script as they could spot negative parts which i didn't see and also to get a second opinion on it.

I am carrying on with my script. It is quite difficult to make as there is so much information and views which i can include but i cant use all of it so i have to choose certain parts. Also i have to make sure i include everthing i specifically want to talk about and make sure i keep the audience interested and get the message across clearly.

After having all my topic research and audience research complete i mindmapped some initial ideas of what i was going to include in my documentary. I also made a plan of when i was going to do each stage so this would help me keep more organised.

Today i had my focus group. I think it went very well! My focus group consisted of 5 people including me, all women. I had ages of 14, 16, 17 and 18. I held my focus group in school. I would have liked to have included an older age of maybe 21-25 as my target audience was 13-25 however due to the circumstances of people not being able to be together in a certain place, this was difficult.
I feel like my focus group helped me a lot and together with my audience questionnaire research i feel like i know more about what will appeal to the audience and what i should include in my documentary.

After giving out my questionnaire to my target audience i looked at the results and summed them up to see what my target audience's opinions where and what they would like to see.
I produced graphs to show my results.
I then organised a focus group so i could get more opinions so i was clear on ideas for my documentary. I arranged my focus group with my target audience; Women, ages 13-25.
My focus group will be held on Wednesday.

After spending quite a lot of time on research i felt like i had thorough detailed research in order to start my documentary. Although it too a lot of time i think it is important to have thorough research as without this is a base for my documentary and without this research i cannot complete my documentary successfully.
The next thing i need to do is get some audience research so i produced a questionnaire.
I also started watching beauty documentaries which were similar to my topic so i can see how they are structured and what i could include similarly in mine. I analysed them in depth and found the codes& conventions.

It was a bit hard as we weren't warned about it so we had to think on the spot! But also after this activity we found out that we were not being filmed but the teacher was making notes on what we were saying. I have completed my research on documentaries. As well as the history and codes and conventions of documentaries i found types of documentaries, more codes& conventions, famous documentary filmmakers, research on modern documentaries and examples of documentaries.
I feel this research is all beneficial and has given me a more in depth understanding of documentaries which i will need to take in count while creating my documentary.

I was continuing my research on documentaries. I research history of documentaries and found typical codes and conventions.
I then made a PowerPoint on this research.

Today i arranged a meeting with my teacher so i could show my topic idea. We will then discuss what research i will need to be doing. I arranged a short document about my chosen topic and why i have chosen this. My meeting will be tomorrow.

Today i made my final proposal which was the same as my first proposal.

I am basing my audience on women ages 13-25 as i think this is the age that is being affected the most.
I want to tell the audience that women's beauty is not all about image but beauty within women, and that the media is portraying women unrealisticly which is affecting women.

Introduction... 25th February 09
Today we were introduced to our extended project. Our project is to create a documentary about a topic of a suitable choice for a specific target audience.
I have chosen to do this topic as i I think this is an interesting choice and it will be interesting to research and make a documentary about. I believe this is an issue that the media is portraying women unrealisticly. Also this is a topic affects a lot of women so it will appeal to many many women.
Firstly, i will need to do some research on the history of documentaries and the code & conventions.
We then chose what topic we are doing our documentary on and then created a mind map of ideas.
My initial idea is how the media portrays women realistically. This is what i will be doing my documentary on.I have chosen to do this topic as i I think this is an interesting choice and it will be interesting to research and make a documentary about.
